This image shows the folded Ridge and Valley belt in the Appalachian Mountains in south-central Pennsylvania. These folded mountains are believed to have been created by repeated expansion and contraction of prior mountain ranges by tectonic forces. The Allegeny Front is in the upper left and Martinsburg is in the center.
The Maps-Un-Natural™ series could also be called Psychedelic Maps. These are an effort to create a visually stunning and interesting image, usually with a limited color palette. The coloration varies only with elevation and often brings out notable landscape features.
